Fiat Freestyle Jam
Last Thursday I’ve competed in the first polish freestyle contest this year “Fiat Freestyle Jam”. The forecast was not too good and to be honest I was waiting with the decision to go there till the last moment.
The first day was a registration day. There where 30 men and 3 women competing. Not to bad for a first event after a long brake. This day meant to be a chill out day without wind but around 5 p.m. northerly breeze started to blow so we moved the contest area to south of Pucka bay and we had a small super session. The wind wasn’t constant and strong enough to make normal heats.
Friday was very similar to the first day although we didn’t make any show expect half an hour in front of camera from a national news station called TVN 24. For sure that was a good promotion for freestyle and luckily at that point there was a bit more wind to make some tricks.
Saturday was the day! The forecast changed and there supposed to be wind on that day so every one where waiting to go on the water. Around 2 p.m. we’ve started with first heats of single elimination. From the beginning you could tell that the level rised from past years. My first heat was against Dominik Rogalski. In that contest that was the first time since a long time that I’ve used my Gaastra Echo 6.0 but I have to admit that it was not to bad especially when there was not to much wind. I won that heat and 3 more and after that I met Tomek Wieczorek in the final. It was quite strong at that point so we could use our 5.2’s. Tomek was sailing very good and he made some difficult moves. All of my heat where pretty strong and constant so I could win that heat, single elimination and in the end the whole contest. After the single elimination we still had a little bit of time to make a best trick session for the crowds. I won that as well with a clean switch chachoo cana brava.
The results where:
1. Jakub Kosmowski (Gaastra, Tabou)
2. Tomek Wieczorek (Gaastra, Tabou)
3. Piotrek Staszczyński (Aerotech)
4. Wiktor Kitzman (Gaastra, Tabou)
Best trick:
1. Jakub Kosmowski (Gaastra, Tabou)
2. Kuba Kołakowski (JP, Neilpryde)
3. Marcin Bocian (RRD, Hot Sails Maui)
All in all a good contest. I’m happy I could go there and compete with polish riders and I could see how freestyle is growing. Congratulations to the organizers, which in the last moment decided to make that event and they’ve done a great job. Hopefully we going to have another event this year.
Now I’m in Kraków preparing for the next EFPT event in Greece. I hope there is going to be strong wind and I can show some better skills on the euro tour.
Cheers.
