Unbelievable level in Lanzarote

środa, czerwiec 25th, 2008

The second world cup event shows how high is the level. In every heat riders where landing tricks like: burner, shaka diablo or toad. It shows that changing to a different scoring system was a good choice. Here in Lanzarote we could do maximum six moves and the best four where judged. It allow you to try some more difficult moves without loosing points for crashing.

The single elimination was won by Marcilio Browne who sailing very good and landed one handed air funnels in every heat. Second place went to Ricardo Campello who improves all the time. Third was Gollito Estredo and fourth Kiri Thode. I didn’t sail to good in a single elimination and lost to a Canadian rides Philip Soltysiak. I finished 17th after the single.

The double elimination is a totally different story. We had a lot more wind so in my first heat I could do a lot more moves. In the first round I was against a former European Champion Kevin Mevissen. I knew it will be a though heat so I had to sail perfect. I sailed without crashing and did all the moves with diablo in the end. In the last seconds of the heat I did a clean shaka cana brava and won that heat.

In the next heat I was against English champion Andy Chambers. We had a little bit less wind so I couldn’t repeat my heat which i had against Kevin. I sailed good but it was not enough to beat Andy. So after the double elimination I’m on the 13th place.

In the double elimination final it was Marcilio Browne and Gollito Estredo who eliminated Ricardo Campello on the way. Marcilio showed a perfect routine with cana brava, funnel cana brava and a one hadned burner which he landed faster then started it. It just few moves of a perfect show from young Brazilian. Gollito sailed amazing and landed a puneta into burner and a shove it double spock in the end. The judges after a long meeting decided in Marcilios favor.

Today forecast is good. We have a skippers meeting at 1 o’clock. if the conditions will be good then we start with the next single elimination.

End report from Milos Beach EFPT

niedziela, czerwiec 15th, 2008

It was second time in Lefkas that we had a EFPT contest. Last year we didn’t had to good conditions but this year the forecast were promising and it looked like it’s going to be a great competition here. In three days of sailing we managed to finish a double elimination.

We had the best conditions on the first day of the contest. It was windy for a 5.0 m2. At that they we finished the whole single elimination. I won my first heat against Nikos Athanasiou but then later I lost to Steven van Broeckhoven and finished nine in the single. Anxton Otaegui won the single, Andre Paskowski was second and Steven van Broeckhoven was third.

On Saturday the wind dropped but the judges decided to run double elimination so all the riders went out on there biggest equipment. I took my 6.0 but still sometimes it was to light. That day all the riders worked really hard to stay in planning and make some next moves. My heat where quite constant and even with such a light wind I managed to do some technical tricks in every heat. I won two heats, one with Stam Promponas and the second one with Martin van Ochten. Unfortunately after those two runs I was quite tired and I didn’t sail as good as before. Niklas Strahlen used the situation and did few more moves then me and won the heat. For me it was finished for this contest and I have to be happy with the nine position. The organizers managed to run few more heat but the wind died 5 heats before the end of the double.

The last day came wind the wind from the morning and after a skippers meeting at 14:00 we started first missing heat. Normen Gunzlein sailed very well trough all his heats and from place number 5 he went up to the final where we’ve met Anxton Otaegui. The final was unbelievable and both of the riders wanted to win really bad here in Greece. Normen did less moves but tried to make more sort new, technical tricks and landed burner diablo, shaka one handed and culo. Anxton on the other hand tried to do as many moves as possible with a lot of variety. He’ve landed all the tricks on switch really clean with a lot of speed and in the begging he nailed a massive shaka. After a long break and waiting time the decision was 3 to 2 on Axton Otaegui and he won both of the Greek events.

Result:

In the end I’m quite happy about those two event in Greece. I sailed on the same level trough all my heats. In Milos Beach I also sailed well on a bog sail which was never my best side. Both heats with Steven van Broeckhoven where hard but also close which gives a good sign for next contests.

The next stop is in Lanzarote for the World Cup. I hope we going to have good conditions and I can show some good moves.

Day two in Milos

sobota, czerwiec 14th, 2008

Today we managed to run few more heat of a double elimination. After yesterdays nice 5.2 sailing today we had to go to work and pump on 6.0. After I finished 9th in the single I had to win at least two heat to maintain this position in the double. In the first heat I sailing against a Greek rider Stam Promponas. It was hard work because of really light wind. I had to pump almost trough my entire heat. Anyway I had a good run and all my moves where clean.

In the next heat I sailing against Maarten van Ochten who is pretty impressive with his burners and agressive style. In this heat I tried to concentrate on my sliding moves and switch. I did puneta one handed, clean switch chachoo, eslider one handed and a gozzada one handed. Then in the end I’ve just trow a clean cana brava and I’ve won that heat.

In the battle for 7th place I fight with Niklas Strahlen. After two heat I was already quite tired after all that pumping and big sail. I didn’t sail as good as in the first two heat and Niklas used it and did three moves more then me. He won the heat and I had to be happy with the 9th place after the double elimination.

The wind was going down all the time so we couldn’t finish all the heats. There are 5 heats left. The judges, don’t know why, announced a very late skippers meeting at 14:00 tomorrow. Let’s hope we can finish everything.

Single Elimination on Milos Beach, Lefkas

piątek, czerwiec 13th, 2008

Around 10 min ago we’ve finished a first single elimination on a Greek island Lefkas. I have to admit that the level is growing from every event.  In my first heat I sailed against a Greek rider Nikos Athanasiou who did a huge progress since the last event. He had an ankle injury and now he is back and sailing good. The heat was quite close but in the end I tried to copy every move from him and do it one handed or diablo and it worked.
I won the heat and in the next one I’ve sailed again against Steven van Broeckhoven.  Both of us showed some technical moves and I did all of my moves with diablo in the end. I’ve also did a huge shaka on the way out and a cana brava. Unfortunetly two to one decision I lost that heat and because of one move which I’ve didn’t land… and that was a  clew first air flaka in the end of the heat. If I would land it then probably I would be in advance. I have to admit that Steven is sailing really consistent and strong. After the heat with me he beat very strong Normen Gunzlein and a while ago he just won the third place battle with Nicola Akgazcyan.

In the final it was Andre Paskowski and Axton Otaegui. It was a good heat but unfortunately the wind dropped a bit so the riders couldn’t show there best moves. Anxton managed to sail a bit better in those tricky conditions and he took the victory in the first single elimination.

Resulst after the single:

1.Anxton  Otaegui

2.Andre Paskowski

3.Steven van Broeckhoven

4.Nicola Akgazcyan
